Relax, Unwind and Indulge in South Korea

Given the current geopolitical landscape, South Korea may not be high on your list of travel destinations. But if you’re looking for a holiday filled with relaxation, forget the crowded beaches of Bali and Thailand, and head north to Korea.

Given the current geopolitical landscape, South Korea may not be high on your list of travel destinations. But if you’re looking for a holiday filled with relaxation, forget the crowded beaches of Bali and Thailand, and head north to Korea.

If it’s a calming getaway you’re after, Jeju – an island to the southwest of South Korea – is hard to beat. It’s a prime filming location for many K-dramas and a much-loved weekend escape for urban dwellers who can hop a quick flight from Incheon to the island, and once you step foot onto the lush ground and take it all in, it’s not hard to see why: the weather is balmy, the coastlines are marvellous, plus there are myriad oceanfront cafés, delicious seafood restaurants, world-class golf courses and incredible hiking options.

For superior pampering, book a room at WE Hotel Wellness Centre and indulge with a session of hydrotherapy. The shallow, heated indoor pool is ensconced underneath a dome lit with pinks, purples and oranges, and once you’re floating, listening to the tranquil music piped into the pool and enjoying a massage from the staff of therapists, you’ll feel entirely at peace.

Prefer an urban environment? Seoul is an ideal choice. Modern, vibrant and technologically savvy, this metropolis is a busy urban centre, but even so, its residents know how to slow down and make time for self-care.

To freshen up after your arrival at Incheon, make time to experience a traditional jjimjilbang (public bathhouse) at Cheongna Sparex. Separated by gender, the communal bathing areas contain both indoor and outdoor pools of varying temperatures (cold, warm and hot) as well as steam saunas. You can pay an additional fee for a vigorous body scrub – which is well-worth the upcharge – that will leave your skin feeling impossibly smooth.

For a unique spa treatment, a facial at the Sulwhasoo Flagship Store & Spa, the first and only Sulwhasoo flagship store in Korea in Gangnam (offered for both men and women) is a must – not only are you able to ogle the stunning interior design of the flagship store, but you also receive an unforgettable facial using the high-end skincare line’s luxurious, ginseng-infused products. If it’s a massage you need, make your way to Olivine Spa in Jongno-gu for a truly wonderful hour-long back rub that will relieve all tension, eradicate any knots and have you feeling fresh and reinvigorated.

Looking for a little glamour? Collabo-X in Gangnam-gu will make you up like a K-pop star at their trendy salon. The experienced stylists will wash, deep condition, blow-dry and style your hair, expertly apply tasteful make-up (yes, even for the gents!) and get you ready for a night on the town – which is handy since hip boutiques, rooftop bingsu purveyors and Michelin-rated restaurants are right around the corner.

No matter your taste in holiday destinations, South Korea offers a plethora of options, all with fantastic wellness opportunities that specialise in helping you achieve peak relaxation.
