Be whisked away to Captial Zouk’s new private Whisky Room for a night of networking and a good, storied sip.
There’s a new drinking den in town for the discerning bunch. If you’re picturing the typical drinks and strobe lights, think again. From a by-invite only, soundproof Whisky Room to networking nights catered to a select crowd, Zouk is gearing up to be the place to be for business professionals.
A newly introduced concept that doubles as a lounge and club space for the working crowd, Capital Zouk is an easy-going enclave perfect for mixing and mingling. What’s more, Thursdays at Capital are fully catered to law, finance, media and creative professionals. Aptly called SUITS networking nights, ladies enjoy free flow of drinks from 9pm to 12am, and for the lads, it’s one-for-one all night long upon presentation of a business card.
Housed on the second floor of the famous Singaporean club’s new home in Clarke Quay, the space also has an island bar, dance floor and the private Whisky Room. The room where you can sip on your beloved beverage also boasts soundproof walls, making it an ideal place to schmoose and simply unwind.
Hard-core whisky fans may choose to indulge in the usual brands they like, but if you’re feeling exploratory, Zouk’s Capital and its private Whisky Room carry a list of rare standouts that are must-tries in various categories, including scotches, Japanese whiskies, single malts, and blends. From the legendary Hanyu Ace of Clubs, finished in rare Mizunara casks with a limited release of only 503 bottles in the world; to the Akashi NAS Single Malt Whisky, a blend of 7-year-old, 5-year-old and 4-year-old malts from three different types of casks; these Japanese fine whiskies are becoming increasingly desirable and are even racked up at auctions.
Other choices that will surely tantalise the taste buds of malt connoisseurs include Taiwan’s award-winning Kavalan Soloist Sherry Cask and its equally fantastic Ex-Bourbon Oak release. The Balvenie Doublewood is another gold stunner to try — a 12-year-old single malt Scotch that carries a distinctive character from being matured in two wood barrels.
While these vintage bottles of whiskies do lend themselves to the sophisticated décor of Zouk’s new establishment, other artful curios curated by The Artling inject a new breath of classy chic to the space. “The Whisky Room at Zouk takes its inspiration from a classic trophy room of historical estates and mansions, but turns it on its head with a contemporary twist,” says the Asian art consultancy.
The modern collection largely focuses on art by Asian artists. There’s a piece that pays a playful homage to taxidermy trophy mounts as seen through Indonesian artist Abdi Setiawan’s Rainbow Deer, while the series of paintings by Filipino painter Ronson Culibrina resembles Old Master portraits, transporting whisky-drinkers to the fads and fancies of the Edwardian era.
