5 Life Lessons With Angela Loh, Founder and CEO of JeweLuxe® International

More wonderful words of wisdom from some of the business world's greatest minds.

There's a common misconception in this world that if a job looks glamorous, it must be easy. Well here to tell you otherwise and to let you in on some of her top business lessons learnt is Angela Loh, Founder and CEO of JeweLuxe.

Having set up JeweLuxe just last year, it is already primed to be Asia's largest festival of curated design and craft, with this years extravaganza expecting over $100 million worth of jewellery, rare gems and limited-edition pieces to come through their doors.

1. Don’t just overcome challenges. Rise above it.

For me, merely solving problems in the challenges we face with today’s retail business is like fighting fire...with more to come. Merely short term reprieve to a pro-longed agony. However when I step back and I focus my mind and heart to see each challenge as opportunities, a whole new scenario unfolds and this is when the process of creation begins. This is what led to the creation of the JeweLuxe integrated digital and physical retail proposition.

2. Live with purpose. Have a vision.

Living a purposeful life keeps me motivated and inspired. Life never has a dull moment when I am working towards a large meaningful goal. This attracts people aligned with my goals and vision – enabling a community that further enriches my life. Life becomes a party. This is how the network of designers (jewellery and fashion), watch and clockmakers, craftsmen of sophisticated living– all passionate about their work have come together to materialise the JeweLuxe® vision.

3. Don’t dwell in negativity. Fear and worries are unproductive.

These are too time consuming and are a waste of time and energy. I believe in facing the problem head-on. No procrastination (unless non action is the solution). Just immerse in the issue, construct scenarios, make a calculated decision and act. Worries and fears gone! Creating the million dollar JeweLuxe® festival with more than USD 100 million showcase of jewellery and timepieces would not be possible if I let fears and worries get to me.

4. Surround yourself with positive people

I love people who are go-getters just like me. People who look at the bright side of things and that we can always find a way. I believe that when life gives you lemons, you make lemonade... and then you bottle and brand them...then market globally to build a billion dollar business. For that you need a lot of positive people around you! My team and the people we partner with in business are the most positive people I have come to know! They are the ones who are “squeezing the lemons and draining the pulp” together with me.

5. Don’t be afraid to be who you want to be

If you want to be angry, be. If you want to laugh, do it. If you feel like crying, find a shoulder and just do it. Life is too short to be anything but yourself. You’ll be judged one way or the other as nobody is the same. So I don’t really bother with the hassle of pretence. I just do and say what I feel is right so long as these don’t hurt or bring pain to others.
