Burberry appoints Riccardo Tisci as Chief Creative Officer

Formerly of Givenchy, Riccardo Tisci replaces long-standing Creative Officer Christopher Bailey at Burberry.

We all knew it was coming; as soon as Christopher Bailey announced that he was stepping down as Chief Creative Officer at Burberry in October last year, the fashion world pondered who could possibly replace the much loved executive. Well, it was unveiled this week that it is none other than former Givenchy head and of course, Kim Kardashian favourite, Riccardo Tisci.

With Bailey being at the helm of Burberry for 17 years, it wont be easy for anyone to fill his much-loved shoes but it's something that Tisci certainly seems ready for, saying in a statement: "I am honoured and delighted to be joining Burberry as its new Chief Creative Officer and reuniting with Marco Gobbetti. I have an enormous respect for Burberry’s British heritage and global appeal and I am excited about the potential of this exceptional brand.” While CEO of Burberry, the afore mentioned Gobbetti added: “I am delighted that Riccardo is joining Burberry as Chief Creative Officer. Riccardo is one of the most talented designers of our time. His designs have an elegance that is contemporary and his skill in blending streetwear with high fashion is highly relevant to today’s luxury consumer. Riccardo’s creative vision will reinforce the ambitions we have for Burberry and position the brand firmly in luxury.”

With the aesthetic at Burberry under Bailey's helm and Givenchy under Tisci's being wildly different, it will be interesting to see what he sends down the runway in his first collection come September.
