Where To Stay: Borneo Eagle Resort

For the very best in luxe meets eco, look no further than the Borneo Eagle Resort.

There is no doubt that living in Singapore we are utterly spoilt when it comes to vacation spots, with some of the world’s best beaches and most vibrant cities just on our doorstep. With that being said, it takes a lot to knock our socks off when it comes to destinations but that’s exactly what Borneo Eagle Resort did.

All too often, holiday spots are either ultra-luxe or ecologically minded but never quite manage to combine the two and this is perhaps where Borneo Eagle really stands out. Straddling the fine line of offering a once in a lifetime trip with unique experiences and first class service with respecting and harmonizing with the local environment is where this wonderful 13 villa resort really makes its name.

Location

Perched on the pristine island of Pulau Tiga off the west coast of Sabah, the island is home to stunning coral reefs, a virgin rainforest, natural mud pools and pristine white beaches, making it the perfect location for those looking to simply chill on the beach or get out and explore some nature.

What’s on offer

Well, quite frankly, what’s not on offer. Want a massage? You don’t need to trek to the spa, oh no, you can enjoy a relaxing hour or two on your very own massage table in your room. Want to check out the coral reef? You’ve got it with the snorkelling gear or diving gear on hand – expect to see the likes of Angel Fish, Clown Fish, lobsters and even a whale shark or two. Then there’s the matter of the three hiking trails around the island and not one, but two volcanic mud pools. If all that sounds a bit too hot, then you can schlep on over to the state of the art fitness centre or book in a personal training session for some yoga or pilates. And, of course, if this all sounds a bit too active, there’s the infinity pool and sandy white beaches to whittle away your days on.

Dining

Keeping in line with the resorts sustainable philosophy, all the meals are around the farm-to-table concept which is not only more environmentally conscious, but also ensures the freshest, most traditional flavours. Fish and vegetables are sourced from the resort owner’s farms on the mainland of Sabah while the talented team of chefs create stunning Asian and Western flavours in the resorts range of three dining outlets.

Accommodation

With just 13 villas on the property, you are guaranteed the ultimate in privacy and peace and quiet. With the villas ranging from 171sq metres to 287sq meters, each of the pool, coral or spa villas boast stunning views of the South China Sea. As if all that isn’t enough, each of the villas has its own Nespresso machine, 55 inch flat screen TV with satellite channels, Bose home theatre system and a large outdoor deck with sun chair.
