When staycations meet fashion

We live in a time where everyone wants everything now, right now. Deliveries on demand, food on demand, beauty on demand and thanks to the plethora of high street brands churning out clothes, fashion on demand, or fast fashion as it is mostly known, has become somewhat of a double edged sword. On the one hand, we have access to new and affordable clothing like never before but on the flip side, landfills are piling up, cheap labour is being exploited and production fumes are worse than ever. All this is leading to industry leaders like NET-A-PORTER to ask its clientele to slow down, respect the garments and producers and to simply think about fashion more – to re-use and recycle.

With that in mind, the e-commerce giants have teamed up with the luxurious Capella Singapore for a staycation like never before.

Having launched NET SUSTAIN in 2019, they are committed to bringing consciously crafted, sustainably sourced and produced brands to the forefront of people’s minds. According to the brand, this addition “marks a new step in a long-term commitment to creating opportunities that contribute to a more circular and sustainable fashion system and has grown to 153 brands.”

So, onto the staycation, called “A Considered Life,” this inaugural initiative’s goal is to encourage us all to consider taking a more sustainable look at life, fashion and beauty. Firstly NET-A-PORTER and MR PORTER will be gifting each Capella Hotel guest a specially curated gift set with NET SUSTAIN beauty pieces for the ladies and MR PORTER grooming items for the gents. This gives everyone the chance to see and feel the difference of sustainable beauty up close for themselves. Guests will also be able to join a range of conscious workshops on topics ranging from DIY crafts to cooking with fresh ingredients and even making their own edible gardens.

Speaking of the collaboration, Lea Cranfield, Chief Buying & Merchandising Officer, NET-A-PORTER, MR PORTER and THE OUTNET said “We are delighted to partner with Capella Singapore and The MeshMinds Foundation in bringing to life our NET SUSTAIN values. At NET-A-PORTER, we aim to enable customers to make informed and conscious choices through our NET SUSTAIN edit and post-purchase solutions – Capella Singapore is an ideal partner for us to continue this commitment to encourage a more circular culture in one of the world’s most digitally competitive cities.” And Fernando Gibaja, General Manager, Capella Singapore added “We are thrilled to partner with NET-A-PORTER, a global brand that embodies a vision very similar to ours – to be curators of unparalleled luxury and personalized services, and The MeshMinds Foundation, in motivating customers to making more environmentally friendly and sustainable decisions. As leaders in each of our industries, we share the common goal of using our ability to influence change. We inspire our guests to make conscious efforts to live a more sustainable life while staying with us through our commitment to zero single-use plastic and energy savings. Taking small, gradual steps towards a more sustainable world counts towards big changes collectively.”

The special staycation is available from 1st September 2021 to 30th September 2021.
