Singapore voted as the best place to be during Covid
The Little Red Dot just knocked New Zealand off the top spot
There are many reasons why we are lucky to be in Singapore. Friendly tax rates, the overall safety of the island and now, our world-class healthcare has put Singapore as the best place to be during Covid, according to Bloomberg’s Covid resilience ranking.
While both New Zealand and Singapore are both reporting near-zero community cases, Singapore’s faster vaccine rollout pipped New Zealand to the post for the first time since the outbreak. The report went so far as to state that “ , “Singapore has already administered vaccines equivalent to cover a fifth of its population, an aspect of pandemic control that other virus eliminators like New Zealand, Australia and Taiwan are lagging on.”
The beginning of the pandemic saw New Zealand being widely lauded for its response to the outbreak but a slow vaccine rollout has meant the country has slipped in the rankings. While officials say that the rollout will ramp up in the coming months, only 4.5% of eligible people have received the shot so far.
When it comes to the Bloomberg ranking system, it uses a range of social measures including vaccination rates, Covid cases, GDP, population charts and community mobility to see which countries are containing the virus without huge damage to their lifestyle of economy. The report ranks 52 economies and is updated monthly.
